(18) 8. The Repetition Section on Lust 184. ‘‘For the direct knowledge of lust, monks, three things should be developed. Which three? Emptiness concentration, signless concentration, desireless concentration— for the direct knowledge of lust, monks, these three things should be developed. For the full understanding of lust, monks, for its complete destruction, for its abandoning, for its exhaustion, for its fading away, for its dispassion, for its cessation, for its relinquishment, for its giving up— these three things should be developed. For hatred, for delusion, for anger, for resentment, for denigration, for domination, for envy, for stinginess, for deceit, for craftiness, for stubbornness, for presumption, for conceit, for excessive conceit, for intoxication, for heedlessness— for their direct knowledge, for their full understanding, for their complete destruction, for their abandoning, for their exhaustion, for their fading away, for their dispassion, for their cessation, for their relinquishment, for their giving up— these three things should be developed.’’ This the Blessed One said. Delighted, those monks rejoiced in the Blessed One's words. The Repetition Section on Lust is finished. Its summary – Lust and hatred and delusion, anger and resentment as the fifth; Denigration, domination, and envy, stinginess, deceit, craftiness. Stubbornness, presumption, and conceit, excessive conceit and intoxication; Heedlessness, seventeen are spoken, dependent on the repetition section on lust. These, by means of simile, by means of attainment, for direct knowledge; For full understanding, for destruction, for abandoning, for exhaustion, for fading away; For dispassion, cessation, relinquishment, for giving up, these ten. Emptiness, and signless, and desireless, these three; Based on concentration, are established in the repetition sections. The Pāli of the Book of Threes is finished.
