(17) 7. Recital on the Paths of Action Monks, endowed with three qualities, is cast into hell as if brought there. Which three? He himself kills living beings, and he encourages others to kill living beings, and he approves of killing living beings. Monks, endowed with these three qualities, is cast into hell as if brought there. Monks, endowed with three qualities, is cast into heaven as if brought there. Which three? He himself abstains from killing living beings, and he encourages others to abstain from killing living beings, and he approves of abstaining from killing living beings…. He himself takes what is not given, and he encourages others to take what is not given, and he approves of taking what is not given…. He himself abstains from taking what is not given, and he encourages others to abstain from taking what is not given, and he approves of abstaining from taking what is not given…. He himself engages in sexual misconduct, and he encourages others in sexual misconduct, and he approves of sexual misconduct…. He himself abstains from sexual misconduct, and he encourages others to abstain from sexual misconduct, and he approves of abstaining from sexual misconduct…. He himself speaks false speech, and he encourages others in false speech, and he approves of false speech…. He himself abstains from false speech, and he encourages others to abstain from false speech, and he approves of abstaining from false speech…. He himself speaks slanderous speech, and he encourages others in slanderous speech, and he approves of slanderous speech…. He himself abstains from slanderous speech, and he encourages others to abstain from slanderous speech, and he approves of abstaining from slanderous speech…. He himself speaks harsh speech, and he encourages others in harsh speech, and he approves of harsh speech…. He himself abstains from harsh speech, and he encourages others to abstain from harsh speech… and he encourages abstinence from it, and he approves of abstinence from harsh speech. He himself is a babbler, and he encourages others in babbling, and he approves of babbling. He himself abstains from babbling, and he encourages others in abstinence from babbling, and he approves of abstinence from babbling. He himself is covetous, and he encourages others in covetousness, and he approves of covetousness. He himself is not covetous, and he encourages others in non-covetousness, and he approves of non-covetousness. He himself has ill will, and he encourages others in ill will, and he approves of ill will. He himself has no ill will, and he encourages others in non-ill will, and he approves of non-ill will. He himself has wrong view, and he encourages others in wrong view, and he approves of wrong view. He himself has right view, and he encourages others in right view, and he approves of right view. Possessed of these three qualities, bhikkhus, he is deposited in heaven as if brought there. The section on courses of action is finished.
