(7) 2. Chapter on Happiness 65. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? The happiness of a layperson and the happiness of one gone forth. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is the happiness of one gone forth." 66. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? Sensual happiness and happiness of renunciation. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is the happiness of renunciation." 67. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? Happiness with attachments and happiness without attachments. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is happiness without attachments." 68. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? Happiness with taints and happiness without taints. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is happiness without taints." 69. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? Material happiness and immaterial happiness. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is immaterial happiness." 70. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? Noble happiness and ignoble happiness. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is noble happiness." 71. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? Bodily happiness and mental happiness. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is mental happiness." 72. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness. Which two? Happiness with rapture and happiness without rapture. Monks, these are the two kinds of happiness. Of these two kinds of happiness, monks, the foremost is happiness without rapture." 73. "Monks, there are two kinds of happiness," pleasures. Which two? Pleasure with gratification and pleasure with equanimity. These, monks, are the two pleasures. Of these two pleasures, monks, the foremost is pleasure with equanimity. These two, monks, are pleasures. Which two? Pleasure of concentration and pleasure of non-concentration. These, monks, are the two pleasures. Of these two pleasures, monks, the foremost is pleasure of concentration. These two, monks, are pleasures. Which two? Pleasure with a rapturous object and pleasure with a non-rapturous object. These, monks, are the two pleasures. Of these two pleasures, monks, the foremost is pleasure with a non-rapturous object. These two, monks, are pleasures. Which two? Pleasure with a gratifying object and pleasure with an equanimous object. These, monks, are the two pleasures. Of these two pleasures, monks, the foremost is pleasure with an equanimous object. These two, monks, are pleasures. Which two? Pleasure with a material object and pleasure with an immaterial object. These, monks, are the two pleasures.
