"I, bhikkhus, do not see any other single quality by which unarisen wholesome states arise, or arisen unwholesome states decline, as by this, bhikkhus, the arousal of energy. For one who has aroused energy, bhikkhus, unarisen wholesome states arise, and arisen unwholesome states decline." The First. 62. "I, bhikkhus, do not see any other single quality by which unarisen unwholesome states arise, or arisen wholesome states decline, as by this, bhikkhus, great desire. For one with great desire, bhikkhus, unarisen unwholesome states arise, and arisen wholesome states decline." The Second. 63. Bhikkhus, I do not see any other single thing by which unarisen wholesome states arise, or arisen unwholesome states decline, just as, bhikkhus, wise attention. For one attending wisely, bhikkhus, unarisen wholesome states arise and arisen unwholesome states decline. The Seventh. Bhikkhus, I do not see any other single thing by which unarisen unwholesome states arise, or arisen wholesome states decline, just as, bhikkhus, lack of clear comprehension. For one lacking clear comprehension, bhikkhus, unarisen unwholesome states arise and arisen wholesome states decline. The Eighth. Bhikkhus, I do not see any other single thing by which unarisen wholesome states arise, or arisen unwholesome states decline, just as, bhikkhus, clear comprehension. For one with clear comprehension, bhikkhus, unarisen wholesome states arise and arisen unwholesome states decline. The Ninth. Bhikkhus, I do not see any other single thing by which unarisen unwholesome states arise, or arisen wholesome states decline, just as, bhikkhus, bad companionship.
