questioned Sakka; "Do you know, Vāsava, the liberations through the destruction of craving?" To him Sakka explained, when questioned, the problem truthfully. He who questioned Brahmā, in the assembly of Sudhammā; "Friend, is that view still yours, that view you had before? Do you see surpassing, shining in the Brahma world?" To him Brahmā explained, progressively, truthfully; "That view, dear sir, is not mine..." that view I had before. I see passing away, the radiant in the Brahma-world; How then today can I say, 'I am eternal, everlasting'? The monk, a disciple of the Buddha, who understands this; By assailing such a monk, O Dark One, you will come to suffering. He who reached the peak of great Meru, with liberation; The forest of the Eastern Videhans, and the people who lie on the ground. The monk, a disciple of the Buddha, who understands this; By assailing such a monk, O Dark One, you will come to suffering. Indeed, fire does not intend, 'I will burn the fool'; But the fool, assailing the blazing fire, he himself is burned. Even so, you, Māra, assailing the Tathāgata; You will burn yourself, like a fool touching fire. Māra has produced demerit, by assailing the Tathāgata; What do you think, O Evil One? My evil will not ripen. By doing, evil accumulates, for a long time, O Destroyer; Māra, be disgusted with the Buddha, do not place hope in monks. Thus the monk in Bhesakaḷāvana, rebuked Māra; Then that dejected yakkha, vanished right there. The Discourse on the Rebuke of Māra, the tenth, is ended. The Minor Twin Chapter, the fifth, is ended.
