Indeed, friends, the one-pointedness of mind encompassed by these seven factors, this, friends, is called the noble right concentration, with its support, with its requisites. From right view, friends, right intention arises; from right intention, right speech arises; from right speech, right action arises; from right action, right livelihood arises; from right livelihood, right effort arises; from right effort, right mindfulness arises; from right mindfulness, right concentration arises; from right concentration, right knowledge arises; from right knowledge, right liberation arises. Indeed, friends, if one were to speak rightly, one would say: ‘Well-proclaimed by the Blessed One is the Dhamma, visible here and now, timeless, inviting inspection, onward-leading, to be personally experienced by the wise, with the doors to the Deathless opened.’ It is this that one would rightly say. For indeed, friends, well-proclaimed by the Blessed One is the Dhamma, visible here and now, timeless, inviting inspection, onward-leading, to be personally experienced by the wise, with the doors to the Deathless opened. ‘‘‘Indeed, friends, whoever are endowed with unwavering faith in the Buddha, endowed with unwavering faith in the Dhamma, endowed with unwavering faith in the Saṅgha, endowed with the virtues dear to the noble ones, and those Magadhan attendants, who were spontaneously reborn, disciplined in the Dhamma, more than twenty-four hundred thousand, who have passed away, who have died, by the destruction of the three fetters, are stream-enterers, not subject to falling into lower states, certain of enlightenment. And there are also once-returners among them. ‘‘There is this other populace, my mind thinks they share in merit; I cannot even count them, out of fear of false speech.’’ ‘This matter, venerable sir, Brahma Sanaṅkumāra spoke. As Brahma Sanaṅkumāra spoke this matter, venerable sir, to King Vessavaṇa, such a thought arose in his mind: “Oh, how wonderful! Oh, how amazing! Such a sublime teacher will exist, such a sublime teaching of the Dhamma, such sublime special attainments will be manifest!” Then, venerable sir, Brahma Sanaṅkumāra, knowing the thought in King Vessavaṇa’s mind, said this to King Vessavaṇa: “What do you think, King Vessavaṇa? In the past too, such a sublime teacher existed, such a sublime teaching of the Dhamma, such sublime special attainments were manifest. In the future too, such a sublime teacher will exist, such a sublime teaching of the Dhamma, such sublime special attainments will be manifest.”’ ‘“This matter, venerable sir, Brahma Sanaṅkumāra spoke to the Tāvatiṃsa devas. This matter, King Vessavaṇa, as Brahma Sanaṅkumāra spoke to the Tāvatiṃsa devas, heard directly, received directly, himself declared in the assembly.”’ This matter, the yakkha Janavasabha, as King Vessavaṇa himself spoke in the assembly, heard directly, received directly, declared to the Blessed One. This matter, the Blessed One, having heard directly from the yakkha Janavasabha, having received directly, and having known it himself, declared to Venerable Ānanda. This matter, Venerable Ānanda, having heard directly from the Blessed One, having received directly, declared to the monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen. Thus, this holy life is prosperous and flourishing, widespread, well-known, extensive, well-proclaimed among devas and humans. The Janavasabha Sutta, the fifth, is concluded.
