What is called 'Nissaggiya', Hear that truly; In the midst of the Sangha, in the midst of the group, By one alone, or by one apart; Having relinquished, he declares, Therefore it is called 'Nissaggiya'. What is called 'Dubbhāsita', Hear that truly; It is ill-spoken, poorly uttered, And a defiled word; And what the wise censure, Therefore it is called 'Dubbhāsita'. What is called 'Sekhiya', Hear that truly; For the trainee, one who is learning, One who follows the straight path. This is the beginning and the conduct, The face of restraint and self-control; There is no such training, Therefore it is called 'Sekhiya'. It rains excessively on what is covered, It does not rain excessively on what is uncovered; Therefore, uncover what is covered, Thus it will not rain excessively on it.
