a well house has been caused to be built... a pond has been caused to be built... a pavilion has been caused to be built... a park has been caused to be built... a park site has been caused to be built... Or there is a son's wedding, or there is a daughter's wedding, or one is sick, or one recites a well-known Sutta. If he sends a messenger to the bhikkhus, 'Venerables, please come, they will learn this Sutta, before this Sutta is lost.' Or if he has some other business, or duty, if he sends a messenger to the bhikkhus, 'Venerables, please come, I wish to give a gift, and to hear the Dhamma, and to see the bhikkhus,' it is to be gone, bhikkhus, for a seven-day purpose, when sent, but not when not sent. A seven-day stay is to be made. 190. Here again, bhikkhus, a female lay follower has caused a monastery to be built for the Sangha. If she sends a messenger to the bhikkhus, 'Venerables, please come, I wish to give a gift, and to hear the Dhamma, and to see the bhikkhus,' it is to be gone, bhikkhus, for a seven-day purpose, when sent, but not when not sent. A seven-day stay is to be made. Here again, bhikkhus, a female lay follower has caused a half-yoke building to be built for the Sangha... ...a palace has been caused to be built... a storied mansion has been caused to be built... a cave dwelling has been caused to be built... an enclosure has been caused to be built... a storehouse has been caused to be built... a service hall has been caused to be built... a fire hall has been caused to be built. …a suitable hut has been built… a latrine has been built… a cloister has been built… a cloister hall has been built… a well has been built… a well house has been built… a hot bathhouse has been built… a hot bathhouse hall has been built… a pond has been built… a pavilion has been built… a park has been built… a park site has been built. If she sends a messenger to the bhikkhus— “Come, venerable sirs, I wish to give a gift, to hear the Dhamma, and to see the bhikkhus”— then, bhikkhus, you should go for a seven-day period, when a messenger has been sent, but not when one has not been sent. A seven-day stay should be made. Here, moreover, bhikkhus, when a female lay follower has designated several bhikkhus…pe… has designated one bhikkhu…pe… has designated the community of bhikkhunis…pe… has designated several bhikkhunis…pe… has designated one bhikkhuni…pe… has designated several female trainees…pe… has designated one female trainee…pe… has designated several male novices…pe… has designated one male novice…pe… has designated several female novices…pe… has designated one female novice…pe…. 191. Here, moreover, bhikkhus, when a female lay follower has had a dwelling built for her own use…pe… has had a sleeping house built… has had a plastered house built… has had an attic built… has had an upper story built… has had a shop built… has had a shop hall built… has had a palace built… has had a mansion built… has had a cave built… has had a precinct built… has had a storeroom built… has had an assembly hall built… has had a fire hall built… has had a kitchen built… has had a cloister built… has had a cloister hall built… has had a well built… has had a well house built… has had a pond built… has had a pavilion built… has had a park built… has had a park site built… or there is a celebration for a son… or there is a celebration for a daughter… or she is sick… or it is a well-known or she recites a Suttanta. If she sends a messenger to the bhikkhus – ‘Come, venerable sirs, they will learn this Suttanta, before this Suttanta perishes.’ Or if she has some other business or duty, if she sends a messenger to the bhikkhus – ‘Come, venerable sirs, I wish to give a donation, and to hear the Dhamma, and to see the bhikkhus,’ it is permissible to go, monks, for a seven-day stay, when a messenger has been sent, but not when one has not been sent. A seven-day stay should be made. 192. Here, monks, a bhikkhu, intending for the Sangha… a bhikkhuni, intending for the Sangha… a sikkhamānā, intending for the Sangha… a sāmaṇera, intending for the Sangha… a sāmaṇerī, intending for the Sangha… intending for many bhikkhus… intending for one bhikkhu… intending for the Bhikkhuni Sangha… intending for many bhikkhunis… intending for one bhikkhuni… intending for many sikkhamānās… intending for one sikkhamānā… intending for many sāmaṇeras… intending for one sāmaṇera… intending for many sāmaṇerīs… intending for one sāmaṇerī… a monastery has been caused to be built… a half-gabled house has been caused to be built… a mansion has been caused to be built… a turreted house has been caused to be built… a cave has been caused to be built… an open court has been caused to be built… a storeroom has been caused to be built… a service hall has been caused to be built… a fire hall has been caused to be built… a suitable hut has been caused to be built… a cloister has been caused to be built… a cloister hall has been caused to be built… a well has been caused to be built… a well house has been caused to be built… a pond has been caused to be built… a pavilion has been caused to be built… a park has been caused to be built… a park site has been caused to be built. A seven-day stay should be made. Permission for a seven-day stay. The section is finished. 110. Permission to go even without being sent for five persons 193. Now at that time a certain bhikkhu was ill. So he sent a messenger to the bhikkhus: “I am ill, let the bhikkhus come, I wish for the bhikkhus’ coming.” They reported this matter to the Blessed One. I allow, bhikkhus, to go for five persons for a seven-day task even without being sent, how much more so when sent. For a bhikkhu, for a bhikkhuni, for a sikkhamana, for a samanera, for a samaneri – I allow, bhikkhus, for these five persons for a seven-day task even without being sent, how much more so when sent. A seven-day stay should be made. Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is ill. If he should send a messenger to the bhikkhus: “I am ill, let the bhikkhus come, I wish for the bhikkhus’ coming,” it should be gone, bhikkhus, for a seven-day task, even without being sent, how much more so when sent – “I will seek for sick-food, or I will seek for attendant-food, or I will seek for sick-medicine, or I will question, or I will attend.” A seven-day stay should be made. Here, bhikkhus, discontent has arisen in a bhikkhu. If he should send a messenger to the bhikkhus: “Discontent has arisen in me, let the bhikkhus come, I wish for the bhikkhus’ coming,” it should be gone, bhikkhus, for a seven-day task, even without being sent, how much more so when sent – “I will quell the discontent, or I will have it quelled, or I will give him a Dhamma talk.” A seven-day stay should be made. Here, bhikkhus, remorse has arisen in a bhikkhu. If he should send a messenger to the bhikkhus: “Remorse has arisen in me, let the bhikkhus come, I wish for the bhikkhus’ coming,” it should be gone, bhikkhus, for a seven-day task, even without being sent, how much more so when sent – “I will dispel the remorse, or I will have it dispelled, or I will give him a Dhamma talk.” Thus. For seven days a gathering should be made. Here, monks, a monk has a wrong view arisen. If he sends a messenger to the monks: “A wrong view has arisen in me, let the monks come, I wish for the monks’ coming,” then, monks, one should go for a seven-day task, even if not sent for, how much more if sent for, thinking: “I will resolve the wrong view, or have it resolved, or I will give him a Dhamma talk.” For seven days a gathering should be made. Here, monks, a monk has fallen into a serious offense, deserving of probation. If he sends a messenger to the monks: “I have fallen into a serious offense, deserving of probation, let the monks come, I wish for the monks’ coming,” then, monks, one should go for a seven-day task, even if not sent for, how much more if sent for, thinking: “I will strive for the granting of probation, or announce it, or I will be a quorum member.” For seven days a gathering should be made. Here, monks, a monk is deserving of being sent back to the beginning. If he sends a messenger to the monks: “I am deserving of being sent back to the beginning, let the monks come, I wish for the monks’ coming,” then, monks, one should go for a seven-day task, even if not sent for, how much more if sent for, thinking: “I will strive for the sending back to the beginning, or announce it, or I will be a quorum member.” For seven days a gathering should be made. Here, monks, a monk is deserving of the mānatta penance. If he sends a messenger to the monks: “I am deserving of the mānatta penance, let the monks come, I wish for the monks’ coming,” then, monks, one should go for a seven-day task, even if not sent for, how much more if sent for, thinking: “I will strive for the granting of mānatta, or announce it, or I will be a quorum member.” For seven days a gathering should be made. Here, monks, a monk is deserving of rehabilitation. If he sends a messenger to the monks: should send a message – "Indeed, I am worthy of rehabilitation, let the bhikkhus come, I wish for the bhikkhus' coming." You should go, monks, for a seven-day task. Even if no message is sent, how much more if one is sent – "I will strive for the rehabilitation, or I will announce it, or I will be a quorum member." A seven-day gathering should be made. Here, monks, if the Saṅgha wishes to perform an act on a bhikkhu, be it an act of rebuke, or of subjection, or of banishment, or of reconciliation, or of suspension. If he sends a messenger to the bhikkhus – "The Saṅgha wishes to perform an act on me, let the bhikkhus come, I wish for the bhikkhus' coming."
