saying, "I attained the four foundations of mindfulness... the four right exertions... the four bases of psychic power; I attained, I attain, I have attained; I am a recipient of the four bases of psychic power, I am skilled; the four bases of psychic power have been realized by me," there is an offense of pācittiya. To another, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one reveals to an unordained person – "I attained the five faculties... the five powers, I am attaining, I have attained; I am a recipient of the five powers, I am master of them; the five powers have been realized by me" – saying this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one reveals to an unordained person – "I attained the seven factors of awakening, I am attaining, I have attained; I am a recipient of the seven factors of awakening, I am master of them; the seven factors of awakening have been realized by me" – saying this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one reveals to an unordained person – "I attained the Noble Eightfold Path, I am attaining, I have attained; I am a recipient of the Noble Eightfold Path, I am master of it; the Noble Eightfold Path has been realized by me" – saying this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one reveals to an unordained person – "I attained the fruit of stream-entry... the fruit of once-returning... the fruit of non-returning... arahatta, I am attaining, I have attained; I am a recipient of arahatta, I am master of it; arahatta has been realized by me" – saying this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one reveals to an unordained person – "My lust has been abandoned... my hatred has been abandoned... my delusion has been abandoned, vomited forth, released, given up, rejected, uprooted, completely uprooted" – saying this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one reveals to an unordained person – "My mind is free from the hindrance of lust... my mind is free from the hindrance of hatred... my mind is free from the hindrance of delusion" – saying this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one reveals to an unordained person – "In an empty dwelling, I attained the first jhāna... the second jhāna... the third jhāna... the fourth jhāna, I am attaining, I have attained; in an empty dwelling, I am a recipient of the fourth jhāna, I am master of it; in an empty dwelling, the fourth jhāna has been realized by me" – saying this, there is an offense of pācittiya. 72. If one reveals to an unordained person – "I attained the first jhāna and the second jhāna, I am attaining, entered; I am a recipient of the first jhāna and the second jhāna, I am skilled; The first jhāna and the second jhāna have been realized by me," to one who says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. Should declare to an unordained person: "I entered the first jhāna and the third jhāna... the first jhāna and the fourth jhāna, I enter, I have entered; I am a recipient of the first jhāna and the fourth jhāna, I am skilled; The first jhāna and the fourth jhāna have been realized by me," to one who says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. Should declare to an unordained person: "I entered the first jhāna and the void liberation... the signless liberation... the desireless liberation... the void concentration... the signless concentration... the desireless concentration, I enter, I have entered; I am a recipient of the first jhāna and the desireless concentration, I am skilled; The first jhāna and the desireless concentration have been realized by me," to one who says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. Should declare to an unordained person: "I entered the first jhāna and the void attainment... the signless attainment... the desireless attainment, I enter, I have entered; I am a recipient of the first jhāna and the desireless attainment, I am skilled; The first jhāna and the desireless attainment have been realized by me," to one who says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. Should declare to an unordained person: "I entered the first jhāna and the three knowledges, I enter, I have entered; I am a recipient of the first jhāna and the three knowledges, I am skilled; The first jhāna and the three knowledges have been realized by me," to one who says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. Should declare to an unordained person: "I entered the first jhāna and the four foundations of mindfulness... ...the four right exertions... the four bases of psychic power, I enter, I have entered; I am a recipient of the first I have attained, I am master of, the jhāna and the four bases of psychic power. The first jhāna and the four bases of psychic power have been realized by me. If one says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one declares to an unordained person: "I entered, I enter, I have entered the first jhāna, the five faculties, and the five powers. I have attained, I am master of, the first jhāna and the five powers. The first jhāna and the five powers have been realized by me." If one says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one declares to an unordained person: "I entered, I enter, I have entered the first jhāna and the seven factors of enlightenment. I have attained, I am master of, the first jhāna and the seven factors of enlightenment. The first jhāna and the seven factors of enlightenment have been realized by me." If one says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one declares to an unordained person: "I entered, I enter, I have entered the first jhāna and the Noble Eightfold Path. I have attained, I am master of, the first jhāna and the Noble Eightfold Path. The first jhāna and the Noble Eightfold Path have been realized by me." If one says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one declares to an unordained person: "I entered, I enter, I have entered the first jhāna and the fruit of stream-entry, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, and arahantship. I have attained, I am master of, the first jhāna and arahantship. The first jhāna and arahantship have been realized by me." If one says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one declares to an unordained person: "I entered, I enter, I have entered the first jhāna. And my greed has been cast off, my hatred has been cast off, my delusion has been cast off, vomited forth, released, abandoned, relinquished, uprooted, utterly uprooted." If one says this, there is an offense of pācittiya. If one declares to an unordained person: "The first and I attained absorption, I am attaining, I have attained... and my mind is free from lust... and my mind is free from hatred... and my mind is free from delusion" — for one who says this, there is an offense of expiation. 73. If he declares to an unordained person — "I attained the second absorption and the third absorption... I attained the second absorption and the fourth absorption, I am attaining, I have attained; I am a recipient of the second absorption and the fourth absorption, I dwell in them; the second absorption and the fourth absorption have been realized by me" — for one who says this, there is an offense of expiation. If he declares to an unordained person — "I attained the second absorption and the liberation of emptiness... (and so on)... and my mind is free from delusion" — for one who says this, there is an offense of expiation. If he declares to an unordained person — "I attained the second absorption and the first absorption, I am attaining, I have attained; I am a recipient of the second absorption and the first absorption, I dwell in them; the second absorption and the first absorption have been realized by me" — for one who says this, there is an offense of expiation... (and so on). The root text is abbreviated. If he declares to an unordained person — "My mind is free from delusion, and I attained the first absorption, I am attaining, I have attained; my mind is free from delusion, and I am a recipient of the first absorption, I dwell in it; my mind is free from delusion, and the first absorption has been realized by me" — for one who says this, there is an offense of expiation... (and so on). If he declares to an unordained person — "My mind is free from delusion, and my mind is free from hatred" — for one who says this, there is an offense of expiation... (and so on). If he declares to an unordained person — "I attained the first absorption, the second absorption, the third absorption, the fourth absorption, and the liberation of emptiness, and the liberation of signlessness, and the liberation of desirelessness, and the concentration of emptiness, and the concentration of signlessness, and the concentration of desirelessness, and the attainment of emptiness, and the attainment of signlessness... I attained the attainment of non-desire, the three knowledges, the four foundations of mindfulness, the four right exertions, the four bases of psychic power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven factors of awakening, the Noble Eightfold Path, the fruit of stream-entry, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, and arahantship. My passion is abandoned, my aversion is abandoned, my delusion is abandoned, vomited forth, released, given up, cast out, uprooted, completely uprooted. My mind is free from the hindrance of passion, my mind is free from the hindrance of aversion, my mind is free from the hindrance of delusion." One who says this incurs an offense of pācittiya. 74. If one says to an unordained person, intending to say, "I attained the first jhāna," but says, "I attained the second jhāna," and the person understands, one incurs an offense of pācittiya. If the person does not understand, one incurs an offense of dukkaṭa. If one says to an unordained person, intending to say, "I attained the first jhāna," but says, "I attained the third jhāna... ...the fourth jhāna, the liberation of emptiness, the liberation of signlessness, the liberation of non-desire, the concentration of emptiness, the concentration of signlessness,
