7. Ways of Settling Disputes (Bhikkhunī Vibhaṅga) These, venerable ones, are the seven ways of settling disputes, Rules that come up for recitation. 1242. For the settling and quelling of disputes that have arisen and are arising: Settlement in the presence should be given, Settlement by recollection should be given, Settlement by not being deluded should be given, Settlement by admission should be made, Settlement by majority, Settlement by specific depravity, And settlement by covering with grass. Recited, venerable ones, are the seven ways of settling disputes. Concerning this, venerable ones, I ask you: "Are you pure in this?" A second time I ask: "Are you pure in this?" A third time I ask: "Are you pure in this?" You are pure in this, venerable ones, therefore you are silent. Thus do I take it. The ways of settling disputes are finished. Recited, venerable ones, is the introduction. Recited are the eight rules of defeat. Recited are the seventeen rules of initial and subsequent meeting. Recited are the thirty rules of expiation with forfeiture. Recited are the one hundred sixty-six rules of expiation. Recited are the eight rules of confession. Recited are the training rules. Recited are the seven ways of settling disputes. So much of the Blessed One's teaching, Included in the discourses, Comes up for recitation every half-month. Therein, all of you, united, Rejoicing, Without dispute, Should train. The Bhikkhunī Vibhaṅga is finished. The Pācittiya Pāḷi is finished.
