How is that prophecy known? The Lord of Secrets said: O Lord of Lanka, that question is good! Very good! Excellent! It is like this: In the realm of beginningless samsara, in the time of beginningless and endless kalpas, for the Buddhas who appear as lamps without beginning or end, the work of a single method has fully matured the things that are beneficial in one direction. Through the sacred method, those things that are beneficial in every direction are fully matured, and those who have vowed to follow will become widely known through the prophecy that they appear and manifest. Because whatever the lamp illuminates, everything other than its own field does not appear. O Lord of Lanka, that prophecy is also like this: In the beginningless kalpa, however much occurs cannot be spoken. I will speak here of one thing that arises from time. Listen, you who have promised and donned armor. In the work of arranging all kalpas, hundreds of millions of Buddhas will arise. The King of Sugatas who manifests at the end of all, prophesied in the assembly: In one world or one continent, in the circumstance of one kalpa, in one place, in one Vajrasana, two Buddhas who have perfected their deeds, I have not truly seen to arise. If they were to arise, it would be impossible and contrary to the Dharma. After the Buddhas pass into nirvana, the wondrous secret essence itself will become widely known. The very nature of the assembled thoughts, the subduing of hundreds will appear. Thus the holy one prophesied. Furthermore, listen to the great exhortation: In the age called Endless, thirty-five thousand Buddhas will appear. The last of all the Buddhas to appear, is that Buddha of Limitless Light, who prophesied within his retinue: Twenty-five thousand Buddhas will appear. The previous Buddhas who have passed away, for the sake of maturing or not maturing, as the holy one prophesied, so also take it to heart here. If I pass away and am no longer visible, after one hundred years, the meaning will become apparent. The powerful one has given this prophecy. Furthermore, listen to the great exhortation: In the age called Famous, forty-six thousand Buddhas will appear. The last of all the Buddhas to appear, is that Buddha, the Friend of All, who prophesied within his retinue: Forty-six thousand Buddhas will appear. Those holy Thus-gone Ones, as they prophesied for the sake of what. After I have passed into peace, after one hundred and fifteen years, the ripening of fruit will appear, the holy one, free from dust and without stain. In this supreme pure realm, one who has the fortune to obtain appearance. To a wise Brahmin woman, there will be fame as the one who subdues harm. Furthermore, listen to the great exhortation: In the age called Auspicious Ornament, eighty kotis of Buddhas will appear. Those Buddhas who appeared to the end, even the Buddha Auspicious Ornament Glory, also prophesied within his retinue: Eighty kotis of Buddhas will appear. The previous Thus-gone Ones, as they prophesied, the Great Vehicle will arise. After my appearance has faded, in the time of half a hundred years, this life will be accomplished, a holy mirror of Dharma. After I have passed away, in this world of Jambudvipa, a fortunate bhikshu will appear. Called Essence of the Sun, having rained down a great rain of the teachings, he will be known as universally harmonious. Furthermore, listen to the great exhortation: In the age called Perfect Endowment, one hundred kotis of Buddhas will appear. All those Buddhas who appeared to the end, even the Buddha Jewel Glory, also prophesied within his retinue: One hundred kotis of Buddhas will appear. After I disappear from here, in one hundred and twelve years, in the place known as the Three Gods' Realm, a sacred essence of the teachings, in the eastern border of Jambudvipa, that fortunate and noble person, to the king named Dza, will first show signs in advance, the peak of the one called Fierce, the companion's inferior body of a bodhisattva, to the lord of Lanka and others, Vajrapani will appear. The Holy One prophesied thus. Like that, endlessly, without beginning or end, it is known thus and thus.
